Being the Caring Community

From Janis Curthoys:
Recently, as many of you know, I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I was very sick for about six weeks and was thus not able to attend church. During that time many of you prayed for me, and I certainly appreciated that. I was also Blessed that several of you, including Pat Smith and Pastor Andrea, called to check on me and tell me that I was missed, and to ask if I needed anything. Those calls meant SO MUCH to me - knowing that my absence mattered, and that people cared.

That got me to thinking about how much we all need to know that we matter, that we are missed when we aren't able to attend church services, and that someone cares enough to reach out with a simple phone call. So I went to Pastor Andrea with the idea that we start a Care Chain. We discussed the idea at this week's Deacon's meeting and Pat Smith and I volunteered to be "in charge" of this new mission.
We aren't going to "take attendance" but we are asking that if you sit near someone, and you notice that they are not in church a couple of Sunday's in a row, that you bring that to our attention, so we can start the Care Chain in motion. We'll make a phone call to ask how they are, let them know they are missed, and to ask if there is anything they need, or if there is some way that we can help.  Also if you'd like to be a caller on the Care Chain please let us know that so we can add your name to the list. This new mission is all part of "Becoming a Beloved Community" as we show our love and concern for each other after the weekly church service is over, because our most powerful testimony is how we treat others after we leave this building!
