Our Mission

"We, the members of United Presbyterian Church of Schoharie, are a caring congregation of diverse people who love, trust, and obey Jesus Christ. As such, we are the body that carries out Christ's teachings in the world today. Therefore, we intend to continue to provide a place for worship and christian education, to encourage the community to participate with us, and to reach out to those in need."

Our Worship

Worship is at the heart of who we are here at Schoharie United Presbyterian Church. We believe the purpose of worship is to glorify God, and celebrate what God is doing within our lives and our community. In worship, we demonstrate the powerful vision God has for all of humanity - the way God has designed us to live together in harmony with others and with all the created order.

We love to worship & praise God, and you can find us doing just that all year...in our Sanctuary, out in the Streets, or under our Pavilion on a warm sunny day!

Traditional Worship service:

10:30 AM Sunday Morning September-June, Sanctuary

9:30 AM Sunday Morning July & August, Pavilion

This Sunday in Worship:

Years Serving Schoharie Valley

Established as a worshiping community of the Paletine refugees in the early 1700’s, the first pastor called to the congregation was Reverend Peter Nicklas Sommer in 1742.

Pastors over the years

Over the many years this congregation has had pastors from different denominations, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed, and the current Presbyterian.

God at the heart of the service

Through all the changes, trying times, and joyful celebrations, there has always been One God at the heart of the service of the church.

Our Affiliations

Since 1960 when the church voted to adopt the Presbyterian denomination, instead of choosing between either the Lutheran or the Methodist affiliations that were concurrent with the name of the congregation, United Presbyterian Church in Schoharie has been a member of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.

Lutheran CemetEry

The Lutheran Cemetery sits on the hill behind the church. The cemetery is old, as old as the settlers of the valley, and many local families have members buried under it’s shady pines. The members of SUPC are the stewards of the cemetery.

As a member of the Albany Presbytery, we therefore also fall within the auspices of the Synod of the Northeast

Carlisle Presbyterian Church

Over the past few years SUPC and Carlisle Presbyterian Church have had the opportunity to combine ministries. Stay tuned for Carlisle staples like Chicken & Biscuits Dinners and Hymn Sings.
